Strolling around the rice paddies of Ubud, Bali, DSLR camera round my neck adding to whiteness of my untanned Canon neck strap line, I find a stream and walk along it.
I happen upon a farmer.
I nod and smile. He sees my camera. I see his plastic bag and the machete in his hand. He stops and points at my camera. Oh no. He’s gonna chop off my head and take my camera.
‘Photo,’ he says. And stands and poses.
Thank god. Visions of him waving his machete in my direction gone, I snap away and show him. He looks pleased and goes on his way.
What a nice man.
Surprised? A little. Relieved? A lot.
